Approved for school kitchens

Big Five Foods is approved by the National Department of Basic Education for the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP).

The approval covers three 5kg institutional packs, made for high-volume school kitchens:

  • Enriched Porridge 5kg: a fortified staple for school-day breakfasts.
  • Beef Soya Mince 5kg: protein-forward and made to stretch every pot.
  • One-Pot Chicken Biryani Mix 5kg: a protein-rich, ready-to-cook rice and soya meal for institutional menus.

What approval means, and what it does not

Approval means these packs can be used on NSNP menus. It is not a contract and not an awarded tender.

The NSNP pathway is planned to feed 2.5 million children a day. That is a plan scale as the programme ramps, not a current daily headcount.

Why it matters

The NSNP, led by the Department of Basic Education, provides one nutritious meal on each school day to learners in quintile 1 to 3 public schools and selected special schools. It supports attendance, concentration and food security.

When children eat well, they can learn. That is why Feed comes first in everything Big Five Group does.
